Dreams are not lived on the sidelines...

I have 2 favorite "football movies" even though I have yet to see The Blindside. Remember the Titans is a movie I can watch over and over again; it has an excellent cast and storyline. I especially love stories that are "based on a true story," which would explain more of my love for history...
Invincible is the story of Vince Papale (played by the handsome Mark Wahlberg), a Philadelphia native who had been an Eagles fan since he can remember. Set back in the 70's, it shows the history of the era including the disco-style and the hard times of factory workers. It's has unbelievable cinematography and art direction and has a fantastic script and storyline. It is based on a true story on how Vince, a regular guy who is down on life (his wife leaves him and he lost his job), triumphs as he makes the 1976 Philadelphia Eagles team. It's just a must-see film and you can watch it with family or friends...oh and the Soundtrack is like a greatest hits CD. I love it....I must have watched it about 10 times by now, at least.
Disney does it again...

How the West was Won

The NBA All-Star Game is this weekend, February 11-14 in Dallas. You can watch it on TNT. I am kind of jealous not to actually go, but maybe next year, and hopefully we can do it in, oh I don't know, San Diego? Anyways, it features a H.O.R.S.E competition. Come on, you know you played that in elementary school. (Saturday, 7pm). The Slam Dunk Competition is after that at 8:30pm. I'm rooting for Shannon Brown, did you see him SLAM in the game last night vs. the Spurs?? (By the way, I'm a big-time Lakers fan). There's an All-Star Celebrity game, Friday at 7pm. Finally, the All-Star Game is Sunday (Aww Valentines Day) at 7pm. See all the details here:
The East includes the "Chalky Gymnast" Lebron James (Cavs). It also includes Allan "I'm a Likeable Guy" Iverson (Sixers). "We do commercials with Chuck (Charles Barkley)": Dwayne Wade (Heat) and Dwight Howard (Magic). And of course Kevin "Good thing I'm not Big Baby" Garnet.
The West includes "The Legend" Steve Nash (Suns). "The Master" Kobe Bryant (81 points in a single game for the Lakers!?). "The Leader" Tim Duncan (Spurs). "The Candyman" Carmelo Anthony (Nuggets). And "The'Big'Guy" A'Mar'E Stoudemire (Suns).
Now who is going to win? The West. I would put my money on it, if I had any. We have more tattoos and we have a white guy. The west just looks more well-rounded and the PPG's are high with all the starters. Plus their reserves (the bench) are better including Brandon Roy and Pau Gasol. If you look at Year-By-Year Results, The West also has more wins....so we shall see.
Here is the preview to the weekend featuring the song "More" by Usher. It's an awesome Music Video too!

How much do you want for this post?

Pawn Stars... an interesting collection of young and old dudes from Las Vegas. This show is on the History Channel and it is definitely one of my favorites. In other words, I tune in every time is see that it's on. I could watch a Pawn Stars marathon everyday because of the history AND the comedy of this show. I have learned a lot about antique guns, coins, American and World History, knives, you name it...

There are 2 bonuses to this show. First you get to see how a Pawn Shop actually works. If you have never been in a Pawn Shop (like me) it gives you a good idea about what they will buy (and for how much). It makes me think of my Grandma's huge house and all the history in there. I wish she would stop hoarding and let me take something in and get on the show! The second bonus is the cast. The owner Rick has that funny breathing laugh that kinda sounds like he is coughing at the same time. The "Old Man" is genuinely old...and says some funny things (and makes a lot of bets). He also looks like Jabba the Hut (thanks Vince). Big Hoss (Rick's son) has this friend Chum Lee that gets really excited over the things like life-size power rangers and pinball machines; they also make him test fire all the antique guns in case they backfire. I like when they bring experts in to price items and make sure they are real...I can't ever recall a favorite episode. You would have to see for yourself and learn something while you're at it.

Take a look and tune into the History Channel. New Episodes are Mondays.
This episode features a John Hancock signed document and an Indiana Jones Whip straight from the movie!

Who won Super Bowl Fourty Four

I had someone tell me today that they went to a super bowl party and no one there knew the band the Who...wtf??!! I had the chance to see them perform life once while working in Fresno (circa 2006) for an event arena and let's just say you HAVE to see the light show in person! I was very impressed that it was a simple performance with BIG TIME lights. That stage was just amazing, not to mention they sang all the best songs.

Oh yeah....YAY Saints!! You know everyone was rooting for them to win. It was so uplifting. What was NOT uplifting was the score. I lost $5 to a stupid bet that was screwed up by a missed field goal and an onside kick! I will still laugh at every Peyton Manning commercial though.
The commercials were not that impressive. The Brett Farve one annoyed me cause it's TRUE! (Ok I guess it is funny because it's true). The only one that made me giggle was the one with Leno, Oprah, and Letterman...oh and maybe the one Doritos commercial where the kid slaps the dude scaming on his chips, but other than that I got up and baked cookies instead of watching most of the game. The "Late Night" commercial was definitely unexpected and it had people boasting about it on the radio this morning. I love late night TV and it was cool of CBS to throw that up there "in light" of the recent "late night TV drama."

Now on to my favorite super bowl moment...
This moment actually happened before the game, and even on Friday before the game. I usually think Ross Matthews is funny, especially when he is on Chelsea Lately, but this clip made him EXTRA funny to me.
"I have a list like that, it's called my Toudouze list."
This Ross the Intern video clip is so funny, which goes back to my thoughts on the whole Leno Show and Late Night...I like them all. I'm gonna miss Conan, but you know what, Leno has some quality left too! It's video shorts like these that make me appreciate late night television. super-cuh, uh, em, super-cuh...

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

I don't really know what to say about Mary Poppins, so isn't that what you say?

I mean, it is seriously one of my favorite Disney classics. You can't go wrong with serving penguins, "posts everyone!", and Dick Van Dyke. Along with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, this has to be a Dick Van Dyke favorite. I just love the chimney sweep dance scene and the chalk drawings and the fact that he has about 30 different professions throughout the film. Julie Andrews is just "practically perfect in every way." Mr. Banks has that funny mustache that makes you focus on his funny-looking face. Mrs. Banks is just plain politically confused and wears the same dress everyday! The cook and the maid have the worst singing voices. The neighbor has some degree of separation anxiety. with Her Majesty's Navy. And then there's that part when the nannies are being blown away by the wind and the last one has her legs all sprawled out and is tooting away by the sound of a tuba.

Of course there is the animation, which is my favorite part; the penguins, the farm animals, and that band with the short skinny husband and the big fat wife! Every minute there is something to laugh about. Then lets not forget the clever one-liners for the adults who are smart enough to catch them. (Mrs. Banks: I'm sorry, dear, but when I chose Katie Nana, I thought she would be firm with the children. She looked so solemn and cross. George Banks: My dear, never confuse efficiency with a liver complaint.) For it's time (and all-time for that matter) it is an awesome movie, and paved the way for the Disney film industry to succeed in both live action and animated films...

Horseman: View halloo! (crystal smiles)
Horse: Oh, yes, definitely. A view halloo. (crystal laughs)
Fox: View halloo? Faith and begora, 'tis them redcoats again! (crystal laughs outloud)
